Ombre, highlights, crown highlights, money piece, gloss, balayage, sombre, baby lights, root smudge, color blend, color melt, lowlights, halo, toner, foilyage, pinwheel lights, semi permanent, new growth coverage, high/lo combo, pony lights...................the words. All. The. Words. All. The. Confusion.
Hey, we get it. If we didn't do hair, we wouldn't know what anything was either. We have Pinterest, Instagram, YouTube and Facebook to blame! It's important to know what you want when you go to a salon. Don't worry, you don't have to sit down and say "I'd like a balayage with a few baby lights, preferably on a 6NV semi permanent base, but use 30v in the crown, 40v on the money piece(but triple backcomb on a diagonal) and for the love of all that is good and holy-tone with the 9P/9V with a drop of 1B".
If you're looking for a new salon, trying to book online can be a challenge, especially if you're a new client. See if the salon you're interested in going to has an option for a consultation. This way you'll be able to identify what service you need to achieve the look you want. Sometimes a procedure that appears to take 2 hours can take 6, if you have dark colored hair, tons of hair, long hair or difficult hair. It's best to be able to plan ahead, for you and your stylist.
Don't feel weird asking questions! If your stylist makes you feel stupid for asking questions-get a new stylist. If they take their time and explain the process, expectations and cost, you have a better chance of getting what you're looking for(or something close).
So ask for the shaghighlightombresmudgeglossayagefoillightbackcombtoningombreessblondebrunette of your dreams! We'll help you get there.
