The Only Thing Worse Than a Heart Break is Hair Breakage

Updated: Aug 19, 2020

Remember the panic that took over your body when your boyfriend Mark dumped you in 8th grade because his parents didn't like you because you weren't Catholic? Yeah THAT Mark.

The fear is real. Your heart will never be the same. No one will want you. You can't get your heart to grow back like it used to be. You will never trust anyone. You vent to your friends. No matter how much you obsess over it, nothing happens. It takes time. Try something new. Self care. Acceptance. Rebuilding a new life. Shaving your head like Britney Spears did in 2007.

These are similarities between heart break and hair breakage.

Hair breakage occurs for many reasons:

*Hormone fluctuations(everyone loves plummeting estrogen levels-oh, hi hot flash! Bye libido!)

*Too many highlighting/blonding sessions with overlapping color or incorrect formula for hair type

*Changing hair colors frequently (I want blonde, no, now red, no maybe a violet red, how about black, I miss my blonde!!! Repeat-blonde, red, black until your hair falls out)

*Improper home care(not using color safe shampoo, using flat irons, curling irons and blow dryers too often, at too high of temperature, doing sections over and over-if you were your hair, wouldn't you want to run away from your scalp too?)

*Wearing sunglasses-on top of the head(hair gets weak and breaks-we know that your Coach knock off sunnies look like, oh god like turbo gorg on top of your head and the lift it gives your hair is to die for, but STOP DOING IT-hair is extremely fragile around the hairline)

*Stress(not like "oh, I can't find my favorite shoes/oh my god the Starbucks line is so long" stress-like a death in the family, poverty, unemployment, homelessness level of stress)

*Improper diet(sorry, Diet Mountain Dew, nicotine gum, crash diets and Slim Jims aren't on the food pyramid)

*Medical illness(such as diabetes, thyroid disorder, cancer, lupus, etc-not like a cold, or a flu, or extreme heart palpitations from the Ecstasy you took Saturday night at that weird, creepy rave)

*Certain medications-read the side affects on drugs.com or on the instructions that come with the medication, or ask your doctor or pharmacist

*THE MOTHER OF ALL HAIR BREAKAGE AND NO ONE LISTENS TO ME------PONY TAILS, BUNS, HIGH TIGHT PONY TAILS, WADDING ALL OF YOUR HAIR UP INTO A PINEAPPLE BUN ON TOP OF YOUR HEAD AND EVEN WORSE, DOING IT WHEN IT IS WET! PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS GOOD AND EVIL STOP DOING IT.

*Brushing the hair while wet(after conditioner has soaked into your hair, run a wide tooth comb through it and the gently rinse out the conditioner)

*Post pregnancy hair loss(even up to 2 years after you gave birth to the little tax deduction!)

*Surgeries where you underwent general anesthesia( general anesthesia brings you as close to death as possible, so it kind of affects your entire body)

*Extensions, clip in extensions, wigs and hair pieces(sew in, glue in, tape, ring-all of the extensions)-they pull on the hair at the root, causing extreme tension and subsequently, breakage and traction alopecia(baldness)

*Hats(especially for men)

*Genetics(BOO! THANKS A LOT NORDIC VIKING GRAMA, VIVO THE RED LEIF!)

*Lack of Vitamin B and Iron(going to Walgreens, brb)

*Purse/diaper bag/backpack(these items pull on our hair and over time, hair breaks off)

There are a few things we can do to repair hair breakage and loss! We can set you on the right path, but it will take time, patience, venting, crying, questioning the meaning of life and frustration, but we can do it together! Make an appointment for a consultation!
